Guru Nanak Darbar of Albany, Inc. is a new non-profit religious organization for the Sikh sangat of Albany, NY. Albany is the capital of New York State, and is located 150 miles north of New York City, and 230 miles south of Montreal, Canada. The Albany area has about 100 Sikh families. The Sikh Sangat in the Albany area comprises of professionals, small business owners and the elderly, all of whom are devoted Sikhs.

Guru Nanak Darbar of Albany, NY is a religious organizaton, incorporated on August 13, 2010 under Section 402 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law of the State of New York. It is a tax-exempt religious organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Guru Nanak Darbar of Albany, Inc. strives to fulfill the following aims and objectives:

  • To be a religious organization of the Sikhs who reside in the Albany, NY area, as well as any Sikh who may visit the area. The organization will operate and maintain a Gurudwara Sahib in the Albany, NY area and will help to promote social, cultural and inter-religious understanding based on peace, love, justice, truth and harmony as preached by the Sikh Gurus.
  • To preserve and develop further interest in the teachings of the Sikh Gurus as enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
  • To hold Divans on Gurbani for the Sikh Sangat on a weekly basis, or more frequently as practical.
  • To organize the teachings of the Punjabi language, Shabad Kirtan, Gurbani Paath, and Sikh history to the Sikh youth and adults of the Albany, NY area.
